Good afternoon Abbeydale School Families,

Our second annual Parent Resource Night was a HUGE success! We had over 120 families come and participate. Families walked away with helpful strategies for ways to support regulation and positive mental health and were also able to connect with a number of free community programs offered through organizations such as the Alex Dental, Calgary Public Library, Compass, City of Calgary, and others! A big THANK YOU to our School Council for providing us with a variety of door prizes. Winners of these will be contacted over the next week!

Please see more updates below:

Next Year Intention Forms for 2024-25

Forms related to intentions for next year were sent home with your child earlier this week. Please complete this form for each of your children indicating if they will be returning to Abbeydale School. This will help us as we begin planning for the 2024-25 school year. Forms were due back to the school by Thursday, Apr. 18. If you haven’t submitted yours yet, please contact our front office as soon as possible!

Kindergarten Orientation

We’re going to be holding our Kindergarten Orientation a little differently this year. If you have registered your child for Kindergarten for the 2024-25 school year, we’ll be reaching out to you in the coming weeks to invite you into the school to meet the teachers, see the kind spaces and share some pertinent information about how you can best support your child with a smooth transition to starting their kindergarten year. Stay tuned!

Staffing Updates

We are excited to announce that Mr. Clayton Bergman will be taking over for Ms. Rehill for the remainder of the school year as she prepares for the next chapter with her growing family. Mr. Bergman has taught at Abbeydale School in the past and has most recently been connected with Grade 3/4 classes supporting with Numeracy Intervention. We are also excited to welcome Mr. Dixon Wood who will be taking over Mr. Bergman’s previous position, doing supporting with some of our older students.

Football 101 Program (Grades 3-5)

Students in Grades 3-5 will get an experience with the Football 101 Program at some point on Apr. 23-25. This is an awesome opportunity to connect with professional athletes and get a quick introduction to the sport. A huge THANK YOU to Ms. M for organizing this!

Nation’s Vision Eye Exams

We have arranged for Nation’s Vision (www.nationsvision.ca) to come into our school May 21-25, 2024. This organization sends in a team of a licenced optometrist, optometric assistant and optician to provide comprehensive eye exams for any child who has not had an eye exam within the past year, right here at school during the school day. Parents are notified if their child has an abnormal eye exam, and prescriptions are provided where necessary. If you would like your child to participate in this program, please ensure that you return the consent form (coming home next week) by May 6, 2024 to their classroom teacher.

Cell Phones & Other Home Items

We are currently in the midst of creating a School Cell Phone Policy, which will be communicated in the coming months. We want to remind parents that personal items, such as cell phones should not be out at school. Cell phones are a distraction to learning and can often times become lost, damaged or stolen. Other personal belongings, such as trading cards and other toys should remain at home.

New Bell Times (2024-25 School Year)

We will have a slight shift in bell times next year. Please see below:

  • Monday-Thursday (8:00-2:40pm *remains the same)
  • Friday (8:00-12:00pm *will be different from 2023-24)
