Feb. 12-16 Update | No School, Valentine's Day, Report Cards, Cutlery, Kindergarten Registration, Lacrosse, Staffing Update

Good afternoon Abbeydale School Families

We have had a busy week as we begin the month of February here at Abbeydale! Students have been enjoying the nicer weather during Recess and Lunch breaks, and have been working on many exciting topics in their classrooms! Just a reminder that next week will be a short week at school (classes will be Mon-Wed only), and we hope you enjoy a nice extended long weekend.

Please see more updates below.

No School Feb 15-16 & 19 (Teachers Convention & Family Day)

There’s NO school Thursday & Friday (Feb. 15-16) as it is Teacher’s Convention. There is also NO school on Monday, Feb. 19th as it’s Family Day. We encourage you to spend time with family, friends and the outdoors!

Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is Wednesday, Feb. 14. Staff will continue to connect this day with our Seven Sacred Teaching on Love. If students want to bring cards, we ask that they have no names and there are enough for everyone in their class. As always, students can NOT hand out candy/snacks to one another.

Report Cards

Report cards are now available for parents to view through the MyCBE app. A reminder that this will need to be either saved to your computer or printed at home for future reference as report cards are only accessible for a window of time through the MyCBE application.

For support in how to access report cards, please use the following link: https://cbe.ab.ca/support/Documents/MyCBE-accessing-online-report-card.pdf

Cutlery at Lunch

We’ve seen an increase in the number of students looking for cutlery during the lunch hour. We want to remind families to ensure that you pack any necessary utensils with your child/ren. Thanks!

Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten registration opens January 15, 2024 and is done through School Engage. Students need to be 5 years old by December 31, 2023 in order to register for Kindergarten.

Elev8 Lacrosse (Residency)

We are excited to have Elev8 Lacrosse join us on this week on Feb. 12 & 14 for a special 2-day residency during regular PE times. The student-centered program ensures that students are actively involved. ELEV8® Professional coaches and National Lacrosse League players lead and instruct the customizable ELEV8 Classroom Lacrosse® program. Beyond the basics of lacrosse, students will learn important values like teamwork and integrity while building on physical skills fundamental to any sport.

Staffing Updates

Alberta Education recently announced schools will receive some additional funds to support students as we continue to see gaps left by the disruption of the pandemic. We are excited to announce that we have hired Mr. Clayton Bergman who will be working to support students Gr. 3-5 students with Numeracy. We’re also excited to announce that we have hired Ms. Karina Muckle who will be with us Mondays-Thursdays beginning on Feb. 5th. Ms Muckle will be doing Phys Ed, allowing homeroom teachers some additional time to support partner classes with small group work and intervention. Please join me in welcoming Mr. Bergman and Ms. Muckle!

Have a great weekend,

Megan Liddell (mrliddell@cbe.ab.ca) & Jaydon Derdall (jwderdall@cbe.ab.ca)
