Good afternoon Abbeydale School Families,
We were so fortunate and excited to have a visit from the Little Red Reading Van today! Our K-2 and EES students were able to go out to see the van, listen to a story, and then receive a book to take home. The Van also generously brought books for our Grade 3-5 students as well, so all Abbeydale students will be bringing home a new book thanks to this awesome program. The Little Red Reading Van is an outreach component of the Little Red Reading House, which is located in the neighbourhood of Inglewood. If you haven’t heard about this hidden gem, it is a lovely and adorable house focused on encouraging and fostering children’s literacy in the City of Calgary. Abbeydale teachers had the opportunity to visit the House on a professional learning day, and we are excited to share it with our families. Any family is able to book a time online to visit the Little Red Reading House, check out the cool little spaces, and take a free book home with you! There is an optional donation for each visit and booking ahead is required. We hope that many Abbeydale families will get a chance to check out this great little gem over the Summer! Book a visit time! A big THANK YOU to Ms. Liddell for organizing this experience for staff and students!!
New Principal Announcement – Welcome Benji Williams
I’m delighted to announce the appointment of Benji Williams to Principal of Abbeydale School beginning in the Fall. I’ll be working with Mr. Williams over the coming weeks to support a smooth transition. I have no doubt he will be a great addition to Abbeydale!!
School Bus Registration
Families are now able to register for school bus service for the 2024-25 school year. Service levels and proposed fees will remain the same as the current school year.
Apply Today
- Registration is available using your MyCBE account. (If you do not already have an account, learn how to create one.)
- Families must register by Sunday, June 16 for students to be added to routes for the start of the next school year.
- We continue to accept registrations after the deadline; however, students are added to the closest existing stop with available space. Processing times could be up to six weeks at the beginning of the school year due to volume.

Last Day of School for Students – Thursday, June 27
Just a reminder that while our last day of school with students is Thursday, June 27, this is a HALF DAY meaning school will be done at 12:30 PM.
Sports Day
Hello Abbeydale Parents! This year's Sports Day is just around the corner. With the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris about to begin we thought it would be fun to make the theme an Olympic one. We are calling it “Going for Gold!” We have planned lots of fun activities for the students, including face painting, parachute games, races, and many more. This will take place outside on Thursday, June 27, between 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM. We would like to ask if you could please have your child wear their house team colours, wear a hat, bring a water bottle and sunscreen. There will be small prizes for participation and Freezies for students. Sports Day should be a blast for everyone!

Cell Phones Policy
Similar to other CBE schools, we’ll be looking to implement an “Away for the Day” Cell phone policy next year. Please see the draft of the policy below:
Away for the Day Cell Phone Policy: Abbeydale School has an away for the day cell phone policy. If students choose to bring their cell phones to school, the expectation will be for them to remain in their back packs on silent or turned off for the duration of the school day. Should you need to connect with your child during the school day, please contact the main office and we will ensure the message gets to your child. It is always our recommendation that students do not bring valuables like technology to school as we do not accept any responsibility for loss or damage of students’ personal devices.
If students are caught with a phone:
- First Offence | Phone is brought to the office to be housed in the office for the remainder of the day. Phone is returned to the student at the end of the day.
- Second Offence | Phone is brought to the office to be housed in the office for the remainder of the day. Phone is returned to a guardian at the end of the day.
- Third Offence | Phone is brought to the office, and progressive discipline measures begin to be employed.
If you have any questions or feedback regarding this, please contact School Administration.
