Week of Nov. 6-10 | Time Change, Remembrance Day, Pick Up, Drop Off, Fall Break, Soccer, School Council Meeting
Good afternoon Abbeydale School Families,
One of the best things of our day is when we get to go into classrooms and watch the magic happen. This week, we have been able to go into classes to watch students engage in literacy centers that are grounded in the Science of Reading. Since the beginning of the year, we’ve seen so much growth and student engagement. We encourage you to talk to your child and your child’s teacher about these literacy centers and see what ways you may be able to support literacy at home!
Please see updates from the week ahead below:
Time Change - Fall Back!
A friendly reminder that Nov. 5 you get an extra hour of sleep! Make sure to set your clocks back on Saturday evening and enjoy the extra hour ????.
Indigenous Veteran’s Day & Remembrance Day
Students and staff will be participating in various activities related to these two significant dates. Each class will be contributing to a school wide presentation which will be show in classes on Nov. 8. A big THANK YOU to Ms. Slavik and Ms. Rehill for putting all of this together!
Pick-Up/Drop-Off
Our school day begins at 8:00am each morning, with staff supervising outside beginning at 7:50am. Our school day ends at 2:40pm. Please ensure that you arrive on time to be able to pick up your child at this time. If an emergency arises and you are going to be a few minutes late, please contact the office. We want to remind families that our office closes shortly after the school day. We ask that late pick-up is minimal to ensure that staff are able to tend to their other responsibilities after the bell.
Thursday, Nov. 9 (Non-Instructional Day) & Fall Break (Nov. 10-14)
There is NO school on Thursday, Nov. 9th as it is a Non-Instructional Day. Students are also off from Nov. 10-14th as it is Fall break. We encourage families to plan for opportunities to be together with one another and with nature!
Soccer
Due to the ongoing safety concerns with snow and ice as well as peer conflicts, we’ve decided to take a break from soccer for the next little while. We’ll continue to monitor the situation and will revisit next steps in the coming weeks.
School Council Meeting (Nov. 27)
Our next school council meeting will take place in-person on Monday, Nov. 27. We invite any interested parents to come and be a part of the great work council does to support our school! While this meeting is in person, please note that childcare is not provided at the school.
Have a great weekend,
Megan Liddell (mrliddell@cbe.ab.ca) & Jaydon Derdall (jwderdall@cbe.ab.ca)
