Week of Sept. 18-22 | House Teams, Terry Fox Run, Non-Instructional Day, New Class, Structures & Routines, School Council Meeting
Good afternoon Abbeydale School Families,
We’ve had a very busy first FULL week. Students continue to settle into routines and teachers are working hard to identify learning plans and goals that support each student with where they are at. As you know, education is a partnership. We encourage parents to continue to be in communication with their child/ren’s teacher to work together to support their academic, social and emotional growth!
Please see updates from the week ahead below:
House Teams
This year we are excited to introduce a new element to our school and community spirit! We have created 4 'houses' in our school, organized by last name. Students with last names A-D will be in the green house, E-L will be in the red house, M-R in the yellow house and S-Z in the blue house. We are hoping that these teams will continue as a tradition in our school and that siblings will be able to share that comradery in years to come.
Terry Fox Run
We will be hosting our Abbeydale School Terry Fox Run on Thursday September 21, rain or shine! Teachers will be collecting donations for the Terry Fox Foundation, if you're interested in donating 'Toonies for Terry'. This event will also kick off our 'House Team' spirit program. Students are encouraged to wear their house colours on the 21st.
Non-Instructional Day (Sept. 22)
There is NO school on Friday, Sept. 22 as it is a Non-Instructional Day.
Enrolment Growth – New Grade 1/2 Class Opening
Over the past several weeks, our enrolment has grown significantly. To decrease high class sizes in Grade 1/2 we will be opening up a new classroom in the very near future. We will be communicating changes to families impacted throughout next week and are working with our Area to hire on a new teacher as quickly as we can.
Structures & Routines
Each classroom has been busy setting up routines and structures in their classrooms at the start of the year. We want to remind parents how healthy these are to have at home as well! We encourage all families to set up healthy routines around bedtime, reading, family time, physical activity and screen time. In addition to this, age-appropriate responsibilities like helping around the house with various chores are good for your child/ren and support them with essential skills that will help them develop and gain independence to support them as they grow.
School Council Meeting | Sept. 25
Our first School Council meeting of the year will take place on Monday, Sept. 25 at 6:30pm. This meeting will take place ONLINE and ALL are welcome to attend! To access the meeting, please click on the link below:
