Week of Sept. 25-29 | School Council, Playground, Staffing, Routines,

Good afternoon Abbeydale School Families,

We had a great week which was capped off by our Terry Fox run. Students spent the week learning about virtues such as perseverance and were also given their house colours. These colours will stick with them throughout their time at Abbeydale School and will be used to organize various events and build community. A HUGE thank you to Ms. Comeau and Ms. Swett for all their work in setting all of this up for us! Well, the weather is beginning to feel more like fall! Just a reminder that unless the temperature dips to below –20, we continue to go outside for recess and lunch. Please check the weather regularly to ensure your child is prepared with the proper attire!

Please see updates from the week ahead below:

School Council – Sept. 25

Our first School Council meeting of the year will take place on Monday, Sept. 25th at 6:30pm. This meeting will take place ONLINE and ALL are welcome to attend! To access the meeting, please click on the link below:

School Council – Monday, Sept. 25

No School – Friday, Sept. 29

There will be NO school on Friday, Sept. 29 as we take time to consider ways that we honor the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation. Over this week, staff will be working with students around various activities related to the Seven Sacred Teachings and that foster knowledge building and support inclusivity.

Use of the Playground During School Time

We are happy to share our Abbeydale community playground with the surrounding community before and after school hours. However, during school time please note that we ask families NOT to use the playground. If we happen to notice families out there we will politely ask you to wait and make use of it when it isn’t being used for student activities. Thanks for your understanding!

New Class - Staffing Update

As was communicated last week, we have opened a new Grade 1 classroom based on increased enrolment for this year. We would like to welcome Ms. Kaylee Labrenz who will be teaching this class for the remainder of the year. We’re very excited to have Ms. Labrenz join our school community!

Structures & Routines

Each classroom has been busy setting up routines and structures in their classrooms at the start of the year. We want to remind parents how healthy these are to have at home as well! We encourage all families to set up healthy routines around bedtime, reading, family time, physical activity and screen time. In addition to this, age-appropriate responsibilities like helping around the house with various chores are good for your child/ren and support them with essential skills that will help them develop and gain independence to support them as they grow.

Have a great weekend,

Megan Liddell (mrliddell@cbe.ab.ca) & Jaydon Derdall (jwderdall@cbe.ab.ca)
