​Good afternoon Abbeydale School Families, ​

We're excited to welcome Regular Program students back on Thursday, Aug. 31^st and our new EES students back on Thursday, Sept. 6^th.  

School Messenger will be our main form of communication again this year. In addition, please make sure you check the Week Ahead emails, which come out every Friday afternoon (from me), as well as ongoing update emails from your child/ren's homeroom teacher throughout the school year. 

Your child's homeroom teacher will contact you by end of day Tuesday, Aug. 30^th. As this is a very busy time of year for our office staff, please do not contact the office ahead of time about class placements. 

A friendly reminder that we do consider many factors in making class lists. As parent requests were considered last Spring, we do not take parent requests for classroom changes at this time.

​​Dear Abbeydale School Families,

It's hard to believe that the end of the school year is here. This year, being in the midst of our second full Pandemic school year, was once again filled with interruptions, changes and challenges. Despite that all though, it was also marked with some returns to normal and with staff and students persevering through many difficult factors to support each other and keep our primary focus on learning. I know that for many of our staff and many of our families, there is an excitement for summer and hope that the start-up to the next school year will bring with it and sense of normality that we haven't seen since the pandemic hit us.

As we head into the break, it's important to reflect on the many successes, opportunities and hard work that was put into the 2021-22 school year. As I think back on the year, I'm reminded of the tremendous growth that we've seen in our students as we try to cultivate a love of reading and develop skills in regulation and conflict resolution. I'm reminded of walking through the halls and into classrooms, being greeted with friendly student faces who were eager to share what they were doing and made significant relationships with their teachers and support staff. I'm reminded of the many hours before school, after school and throughout our days where staff were diligently planning, preparing and caring for the families in our community. I feel very fortunate to be a part of this school community and for the amazing things we were able to do together this year. This evening as you sit with your child, I encourage you to reflect with them about their memories of the year and encourage them with the successes they've had. ​

As we pause for the summer, we want to remind all families that the first day for students is Monday, August 15^th. As you look to the days and weeks ahead, we encourage families to continue to support your child/s learning throughout the summer. Read with them, provide them routines and structure throughout their days, set goals with them and, most importantly, encourage them. I hope the summer provides much time to enjoy one another and opportunities for many fond memories to be made.
